Our planning has 5 directives which we call our Big Ideas:
- Sharing Spaces: look for ways to use existing resources like gardens and tools as well as sharing labour to increase local food production.
- Education and Mentorship: present opportunities for teaching and learning that focus on our particular region (eg. climate specific gardening, invasive species, food preservation, seed-saving)
- Coordination and Communication: at the Board/governance level, continue to strive for an organization with a reputation of dependability; work to develop strong communication with other groups who deal with food matters to put the focus on local and maximize opportunities for coordinated projects.
- Food Security and Local Food Systems: develop connections with other organizations, small scale farmers, farmers markets and local government to enhance the objective of sustaining a thriving local food culture (eg. Annual Seed Swap).
- Social Enterprise: explore ways using social enterprise models to create sustainable funding when possible.
